Sunlight is energy and it is for free!
Good news for those who have been eyeing Tesla’s new Solar Roof – the company just announced pricing for its photovoltaic tiles, and they come in at just $21.85 per square foot. That, they claim is nearly 20 percent cheaper than a normal roof once you factor in the energy savings and tax credits. Well, almost there – do it without tax credits and then we are there but OK for tax credits to get started.
At least, someone has finally grasped that making a conventional tiled roof, and then retro-fitting solar panels is little short of insane suicide. We have the technology to make a roof out of solar panels and we should never, from this day on, ever make another conventional roof.

There must be some grave reservations about nuclear power, not just on safety but on cost and time to get on stream. The Chinese are really good engineers and, no doubt, will do a great job. However, buying in does not do much for the British economy and the price paid is a depressing thought.
Many in the public area have reservations about shale gas. Much of that public view is misinformed – or just not informed at all because both government and the industry thought (naively) that the NIMBY’s would just get tired and go away. Shale could be done quickly and safely. Shale is the cleanest hydrocarbon burn. We, the British, have the best and safest drilling technology in the world. UK shale would dramatically cut our imports and do so quickly. Common sense says home-grown fuel has to be a no-brainer. So why do anything else?
The truth is that the UK economy is little short of bankrupt and shale would change all that.Shale will buy us time to develop not just renewables but sustainable renewables. Pity the government withdrew its support so abruptly, really.
Summary- do not do imported nuclear, do do shale and now, invest in sustainable renewables.
